Can you please provide our readers with a brief background of the company?
JD
Datastrip was formed in 1997 as Datastrip Limited which today includes Datastrip, Inc and Datastrip Products. The company actually started off with providing 2D barcodes and readers for passport and other identity documents. We used our own proprietary barcode, 2DSuperscript, in that effort which allowed an expansive amount of data to be stored in barcodes which still hold up against today's standards. Now the heart of the company is in its Datastrip Verification Instant Identity (DSVII) product line for the mobile identification market.

Can you review your Biometric product lineup?
JD
Datastrip's products are designed to provide instant, on the spot identity verification of individuals from any credential. We support a full line of readers that do just that. Currently there are three distinct models all supporting biometric fingerprint matching for verification. Our base model, the DSVII-SC, supports the ability of reading a multitude of cards including contact and contactless as well as other proprietary standards in the field. Our scanner unit the DSVII-PA, has a full document scanner at its base allowing it to scan a full page passport, making our device the only mobile passport verifier readily available. Our last model is the DSVII-SW, which similar to the PA has a smaller footprint of the scanner module allowing it to read standard card size documents such as state driver licenses for example.

Last year you announced that Datastrip had received the Frost & Sullivan Product Innovation of the Year Award in the smart cards market for your DSVII handheld identity verification terminals - portable smart card/biometric readers. Can you please elaborate on this award?
JD
Datastrip was privileged to be the recipient of the 2006 Frost & Sullivan's Product Innovation of the Year Award for the smart cards market. The award was established on Frost & Sullivan's evaluation of all new smart card-related products and their significance to the industry. The company was recognized for its product innovation capabilities in bringing out the DSVII range of readers tailored for various markets. Addressing industry requirements, our units keep in stride with the growing need to keep up with multiple identification technologies and multiple security levels as they evolve – this award reflects that effort.

What vertical markets do you focus on and where are you seeing the greatest growth?
JD
Because of the unique nature of both the industry and our products, we are able to touch upon all the vertical markets. From state and local agencies, to government and commercial sectors, our unit is tailored to address security concerns in each, depending on the need. First responders, homeland security programs, law enforcement personnel, customs officials, and security within ports and harbor are just some of the many possible deployments of our product.
However, the greatest growth in recent years has been mainly in the government markets. Now, with the growing need to define security and common credentialing, the mobile security market is expanding rapidly and we foresee great opportunity in the future for expansion.

You also recently announced that Datastrip was expanding with a New Regional Office in United Arab Emirates . What prompted that move and how is it going?
JD
Yes, in response to the growing demand in the market place we expanded our offices abroad to compliment our UK offices, enabling us to expand our resources and efforts.

Has this past year been a good one for the company?
JD
Datastrip's performance has always been on par with the market's needs and expectations in the ID market. Our devices have continually exceeded those expectations and this reflects in the company's annual growth and future product expansions to consistently deliver a solid and refined tool.

What can we expect to see from Datastrip in the coming year?
JD
With the recent GSA certification of our device we became the first single fingerprint capture device on the approved product list enabling our product to be used for the personal identity verification of federal employees, contractors, and first responders under the Homeland Security Presidential Directive. We look at this as a stepping stone for things to come; we anticipate seeing some exciting products to be released in the coming year that takes strides over the market in mobile security credentialing. With prominent changes to our devices we are also updating our software and development kits to better address tomorrow's needs and help companies, government agencies and other organizations utilize our products.
