| Hospital Adopts Biometric Security Solution for Workstations
St. Vincent Hospital and Health Care Center, Inc., one of the largest healthcare providers in the Indianapolis region, has commenced the second phase of a 5,000-user Biometric Security Solution rollout.
St. Vincent needed an efficient and highly secure system for health care workers to access patients electronic medical records, while complying with the governments Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) privacy rules that will become effective in 2003. After extensive research, St. Vincents IT group determined that a single sign-on software solution, in combination with biometric authentication, would help to eliminate one of its biggest administrative problems lost or forgotten passwords.
Analysis of available solutions and a competitive pilot led the hospital to select Computer Associates Internationals (CA) eTrust Single Sign-On (SSO) and SAFLINKs SAFaccess biometric security solution. The teams from CA and SAFLINK listened to our needs and delivered an integrated solution that helped us to raise the bar for system access security while providing the speed and simplicity of access demanded by our users, said Bruce Peck, Information Security Manager, St. Vincent Hospitals and Health Services. The first phase of our implementation was positive. We now have other departments demanding an accelerated rollout schedule."
For SAFLINK, this rollout represents a significant milestone in our strategy to be the dominant provider of HIPAA-compliant security solutions for the Health Care industry, said Glenn Argenbright, Chief Executive Officer of SAFLINK Corporation. Our product offers health care workers the convenience of a password they cant lose, while providing administrators with a flexible authentication solution designed to be implemented using their current network platform.
