Canadian Airports & Border Patrol Sites Adopt Fingerprint Biometric
Printrak, A Motorola Company and a leading worldwide supplier of integrated biometric identification and information systems used in public safety, criminal justice and civil applications announced a significant contract with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and Public Works and Government Services Canada to provide a Canada-wide security network for use at airports and border patrol sites involving the LiveScan Station 3000N.
The contract, which represents one of the largest livescan security projects in North American history, will include a large number of Printrak LiveScan Station 3000N units and an upgrade to the existing National Institute of Standards Technology (NIST) server. The integrated network is designed to enable officials throughout Canada to quickly and easily identify individuals entering its borders via a rapid fingerprint search against the established RCMP National AFIS database, as well as other shared records repositories.
The LiveScan project, which is part of Canadas larger effort to streamline national security, will provide airports, seaports, border patrol crossings and other selected law enforcement agencies with the biometric technology they need to protect Canada from potential national security threats.
Printrak is the first, and currently the only company that offers RCMP - National Police Services - NIST certified automated fingerprint identification technology in Canada. The new system will further support the planned seamless exchange of fingerprint data between the RCMP and the FBI, which is meant to enhance homeland security throughout Canada. The project is planned for implementation in early 2002.
The Printrak LSS 3000N is the only LiveScan product on the market today that offers a completely integrated booking solution with the benefit of having mugshot, palm and ten-print (fingerprint) capture capabilities, in a single standalone unit. The LiveScan Station 3000N is part of Printraks comprehensive family of core technologies, the Digital Justice Solution, which meets the entire range of public safety and criminal justice information management needs.
